Samuel Jacob Joyner, Jr.

June 10, 1936 — May 14, 2024

Morehead City

Samuel Jacob Joyner, Jr., 87, passed away peacefully on May 14,2024, surrounded by family near and far along with his devoted wife, Annette since 1994.

Sam found joy in spending time with the grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Working in his garden gave him the excitement of knowing he would be sharing what he picked.

Sam was born on June 10,1936 in Rocky Mount, NC to his parents, Samuel and Beulah Joyner along with his very close eleven siblings.

As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Sam believed in the hope of seeing his loved ones again. Revelation 21:4

He was known by all, for his kind and gentle spirit, as well as his willingness to help others.

Sam spent 25 years as the Automotive Instructor at Carteret Community College, and all those years gave him the title of “being one of the best mechanics in town” so after retirement, Sam needed something to do, so with help from friends he built a garage at his home and worked up until his early 80’s. Many may recall his famous words, “I’ll get a bill to you later.” and “Pay me when you can” and “I’m Sam the man”. He was such a kind and loving man who will be missed very much.

To Sam, his life journey started with his love for Jehovah God, along with his deep love for his children as listed: Gail Carr (Dwight), Gary Bishop (Becky), Charlene Venette (Jeff), Lisa Chisholm (Steve), Julie Perry (David); grandchildren: Kiersten, Julianna, Kalen, Ryan, Trevor, Jeremy, Stacy, Haley and precious to Papa his seven great grandchildren-such a legacy Sam has left behind-filled with love and laughter that will be forever in our hearts.
