Myrtle Corey Toler, known fondly as Myrtle to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2024, at the age of 79 at SECU Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport, NC and is resting in the arms of her Lord and Savior. Born on May 26, 1944, in Plymouth, NC, Myrtle was a beacon of love and laughter in the lives of all who knew her.
Myrtle graduated from Plymouth High School and soon after began working as a secretary. She dedicated many years to homemaking, a role she cherished deeply. Alongside her late husband, Charles Toler, she supported his family's used furniture business with diligence and grace.
She spent her life surrounded by the love of her family. Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Toler, and her parents, Carrie Corey and Russell Corey. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth and kindness in her son, Bryan McIntire; her daughter, Melissa Mayse and son-in-law, Harvey; her bonus son, Chris Frye and daughter-in-law, Robyn; brother, Billy Corey and his wife Laura. Myrtle was the cherished Memama to her two granddaughters, Emily Mayse, Brittany and her husband Aaron; her grandsons, David Davenport and his wife Gabrielle, and Michael Cowan; and her seven great-grandchildren, who will miss her dearly.
Myrtle's home on Lake Phelps and her residence in New Bern were hubs of joy and hospitality. Her younger years were filled with the creation of beautiful crafts, especially for her favorite holiday, Christmas. Her creativity and attention to detail were evident in every piece she made. Myrtle's love for her family extended beyond her immediate relatives to include many friends who became honorary members of her family. The role of Memama was one she embraced wholeheartedly, providing love, laughter, and memories that will be treasured forever.
Those who knew Myrtle would describe her as loving, funny, and thoughtful. Her laughter was infectious, and her ability to find humor in the everyday brought smiles to many faces. She was the kind of person who remembered the little things, the quiet acts of kindness that make life sweeter.
Myrtle's life was a tapestry of moments shared with those she loved. Her presence was a gift, her laughter a melody that echoed through the halls of her home and the hearts of those she touched. As we say goodbye, we take solace in the countless memories that Myrtle has left behind—a legacy of love that will continue to inspire and guide us. In honor of Myrtle's remarkable journey through life, we celebrate the years we were privileged to spend with her. As we reflect on her life, we are reminded of the joy she brought into this world and the indelible mark she has left on our hearts. Myrtle Corey Toler will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the stories we share and the love we continue to give, just as she taught us.
Myrtle's life was a testament to the beauty of family, friendship, and the simple pleasures of life. We bid her farewell with heavy hearts, but also with profound gratitude for the time we were blessed to have her among us. May her laughter, her love, and her legacy never be forgotten.
